Hamari Adhuri Kahani is reportedly based on Mahesh Bhatt's
life.It is based on the love story of Bhatt's parents, Nanabhai Bhatt, Shirin
Mohammad Ali and his stepmother .

Story Line
The trailer opens with Vidya's husband storming out of their
house with the actress on his heels. The opening quarrels between Vidya
and Rajkummar are indicative of a dysfunctional marriage, which is at
the core of the story. Emraan Hashmi plays Vidya's lover in the film.
The two are torn by societal norms and taboos, and Hashmi tries his best
in bridging the distance between the two of them, or so the trailer
indicates.
Rajkummar Rao's unkempt look and dishevelled
hair is quite striking in the trailer. From the dialogues used in the
trailer, Vidya appears to be the one not willing to break away from her
marriage, despite being in a troubled one, while Emraan wants her out of
the mess.
